Building & Land

“Build us a tent in a meadow.” With these words a vision for our church home was born. Grace is situated in the center of a beautiful ten-acre property, a site carefully chosen to create a sense of wonder and discovery. The image of a tent reflects the years we wandered before settling on the land.

Our building was completed in 2003. Six massive pillars support a roof that soars thirty feet above the sanctuary. Walls of glass and clerestory windows allow natural light to fill the space. At night the building glows like a beacon, welcoming all to enter. The Grace sanctuary reflects the style of worship we embrace. There is no raised altar or altar rail; we use individual chairs instead of pews; seating is arranged in a circle so we can experience the faces of Grace while celebrating our commitment to inclusion. Design elements include natural lighting, openness, and the warmth of natural wood.

Care and maintenance of the entire property are under the leadership of our Place for Grace Ministry. With each passing year, our master plan for the entire site is gradually being implemented. A Memorial Garden, labyrinth, and nature trail offer opportunities for contemplation and reflection. A vegetable garden allows us to grow organic produce for the Island’s food pantry.

All are welcome to enjoy these amenities. All represent ways that we at Grace serve the greater community.
